Making your own rabbit feed can be a great way to ensure
they get a balanced, healthy diet. Here's a basic homemade rabbit feed mix
using natural ingredients:
1. Hay (main component – 70-80%)
· Type: Timothy, orchard grass, meadow hay, or alfalfa (for
young/growing rabbits)
· Purpose: Fiber for digestion
2. Fresh greens (10-15%)
· Examples: Romaine lettuce, cilantro, parsley, dandelion
greens, carrot tops
· Avoid: Iceberg lettuce, cabbage, or anything high in
oxalates in large amounts
3. Pellets (optional supplement – 5-10%)
· Choose high-fiber
pellets (18%+ fiber) with no added seeds, nuts, or colored bits
· You can also make
your own pellets (see below)
4. Vegetables (treats – 5%)
· Examples: Carrots, bell peppers, zucchini
· Feed in moderation
due to sugar content
5. Grains and legumes (optional – small amounts only)
· Examples: Rolled oats, barley, black oil sunflower seeds
· Use only if your
rabbit needs extra energy or is underweight
