Corn is one of the most popular grain that is grow worldwide. Starting a corn farm can be very profitable if it is done in a proper way. This particular crop is a tender and warm-weather crop. This crop is mostly grown in gardens. The following are some of the advice on how to grow corn in the garden;
 1.Make sure you sow the corn in the garden one week after the last frost most especially when the soil temperature has warmed to at least 65°F (18°C).
 2.Make sure you start the corn indoors four weeks before transplanting it to the garden. The corn seedlings as small as 1 inch (2.5 cm) can really withstand transplanting.
 3.Try as much as possible to time the last sowing so that harvest comes 1 week or 2  weeks before the first expected frost in fall.
 4.Don’t forget that planting the corn in cold soil or chilly weather can cause poor stands and poor yield.
  5.One thing about corn is that they mature 60 to 100 frost-free days after sowing.
 The following are the tips on how to sow and plant corn;
 1.The corn should be grow from seeds or seedlings.
 2.The corn seeds are viable for 2 years.
 3.Make sure the corn is direct sow in the garden in spring after all danger of frost has passed away and the soil has warmed to about 60°F (16°C).
 4.Don’t forget that the optimal soil temperature for growing corn is about 65°F to 75°F (18-24°C). Also don’t forget that the corn cannot germinate in a soil chillier than 50°F (10°C).
 5.If you actually want to start the corn plants indoors make sure you sow the seed in peat pots 3 to 4 weeks before planting out. Also make sure that the optimal indoor temperature is 70°F (21°C) until germination.
 6.Make sure you sow the seed 1 inch (2.5 cm) deep.
 7.The corn seeds will germinate 4 to 10 days.
 8.Make sure the corn is transplant into the garden after the soil has warmed to about 70°F (21°C).
 9.The corn should be space 12 inches (30 cm) apart in all directions. The corn should be plant in blocks of at least 4 rows for optimal pollination. It should be about 4 plants for each square foot.
 10.Make sure you keep the soil just moist. If you allow the soil to dry out it will interrupt pod development.
 11.Make sure you fertilize with fish emulsion or a soluble complete fertilizer at half strength.
 12.Try as much as possible to add aged compost to planting beds in advance of transplanting.
 13.One thing about corn is that they prefer a soil pH that is between  6.0 to 7.0.
 14.The corn should be grow in full sun to get the best yield.
 15.The following are some of the common pest enemies of corn; Armyworms, aphids, raccoons, corn maggots, corn rootworms, cucumber beetles, flea beetles, Japanese beetles, leafhoppers, seed corn maggots, birds, and corn earworms.
 16.The following are the common diseases that attack corn; Stewart’s wilt, , mosaic virus, rust, corn smut, southern corn leaf blight, and bacterial blight.
 17.The following are the recommended Corn varieties to plant; Tom Thumb, Polar Vee,  Golden Bantam,  Honey and Cream, Country Gentleman, Silver Queen, Golden Midget, Early Sunglow, etc.

 The botanical name for corn is  Zea mays var. rugosa
